Digital Prints Artist Statement
I am deeply drawn to history and its accounts of what was learned, forgotten and rediscovered. This inspires me to create personal figurative timelines in my work. I layer and manipulate various photos taken on vacations, personal objects found in my home or studio to create one image. The results journal accounts from various periods of my life. I am influenced by antiquity, textures, my Colombian culture, and the graphic arts. All of these references nest upon each other and culminate in modern prints with a bit of nostalgia.
Connections, stories, history, they are present and prominent themes in my work. As a Hispanic American, I feel the responsibility of living in two very diverse cultures. It is the journey of defining my place in both that steers my work to finding commonalities between the two worlds she inhabits.
